Zero Liquid Discharge

Zero liquid discharge, is beneficial for both municipal and industrial organizations, but as there is a significant reduction of overheads and water consumption expenses is observed in the industrial applications, there is a growing industrial demand for zero liquid discharge.

Our associates' zero liquid discharge systems employ one of the most advanced wastewater treatment technologies to treat and recycle wastewater.

We along with our associates one of the world's most efficient and economical zero liquid discharge systems. Our technology offers the maximum recycle potential (over 85%) and discharges only solid wastes as by product.

Generally, the zero liquid discharge process includes reverse osmosis followed by evaporation and crystallization of reverse osmosis rejects. The cost of energy for reducing the volume through evaporation and crystallization is very high. Even when it is compared to the cost of energy required for volume reduction through reverse osmosis, it is found to be significantly high. Thus, in order to reduce the cost of the zero liquid discharge, it is essential to maximize recovery from the reverse osmosis unit.

To this end, our associate is a licensee of the high efficiency reverse osmosis (HEROTM) process and has the ability to offer this process as a part of our ZLD solutions. The HERO process removes barriers to RO recovery typically encountered in conventional RO systems, such as:

  • Hardness scaling - The HERO pretreatment process removes the hardness scaling tendency of the RO feed water.
  • Silica scaling - The HERO process is operated at a high pH. At a high pH, the solubility of silica increases such that silica concentration is no longer a barrier to high recovery.
  • Organic fouling - At a high pH, organics are either saponified or ionized, increasing the solubility of organics and preventing the precipitation (i.e. fouling) of organics on the RO membranes.
  • Biofouling - At a high pH, bacterial cells are lysed or inactivated, thus preventing biological fouling of the RO membranes.

Together with our associate-s experience and technical expertise in conventional industrial and municipal wastewater treatment, OUR ASSOCIATE has the ability to offer complete ZLD solutions from the point of effluent generation to the point of dry salt and recycled water production.
